Updos, chignons, half-up, half-down hairdos for women wanting creative elegance by day or going out for the evening, leaning towards a refined look. It usually boils down to a few reasons. A celeb has short hair but prefers it long, and doesn't want to wait for it to grow out. Or she already has long hair, but it's thin, and she wants more volume.

Another reason why celebrity hair is often enhanced today is it can get damaged due to frequent exposure to excess heat and harsh chemicals in the regular process of preparation for acting roles, television appearances, magazine photoshoots, etc. Extensions can mask the damage. Some movie roles require short or even very short hair, but not all actresses like to wear it so short. When the film is completed, they can go back faster to the length they prefer with extensions.
